Julia Snyder has written a great little book for Background designs such as Baby Blanket, Lichee Nut, Sacred Mountain, Victoria & Albert Herringbone and Kisses. She has also given us ideas for corners: Frog Corner and Fish Corner. There are tips, hints and lots of open canvas grid sheets for creating your own designs.
This is Amy's go-to-book for backgrounds. She loved "Crosses" stitch diagram on page 9 so much that she has used a variation of it for the background on Kelly Clark's Nativity Series. We have a copy for you.
